Our Story
The seeds of an idea for the Concordia Music Conservatory began in the spring of 2021 with a strong vision to provide a solution to the growing need for qualified musicians for churches and the community. In the summer of 2021, the SPLHS Board of Trustees agreed to partner with CMC by offering the use of the music building facilities on the SPLHS campus. On September 2, 2021, the Board of Directors held its first official meeting. The academic year of 2021-2022 saw an enrollment of 9 students in strings and voice.
CMC has grown steadily since its inception. Three years later, there are now more than 100 students enrolled in the Concordia Music Conservatory. In addition to all of the private lessons offered, CMC now offers courses for the community, such as Music Appreciation and Musikgarten© Courses for Mothers and infants (led by certified Musikgarten instructors), two regional community children’s choirs, a guitar ensemble, a Handbell Ensemble and summer music camps for children from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Our vision is to become the testing site for music proficiency exams in both strings and piano.
Those students enrolled in CMC come from all over the region—some come from as far as a 60-mile radius to receive a high-quality music education at the Concordia Music Conservatory. CMC maintains a high standard for their instructors—all instructors have music degrees, and most have at least a Master of Music degree. (In exceptional cases CMC will occasionally employ a junior instructor who is actively pursuing a music degree.)
CMC is committed to continuing to grow enrollment and events as well as planning for their own building that includes rehearsal space and a performance hall. You can support us by sponsoring students, volunteering at events, or providing the financial support needed to support the rapidly-growing administrative costs. Join us as we work hard to become the regional music center for Central Missouri!
